What's for dinner?

Hello 2012!

What do you have in store for me I wonder? Just in case you don’t know this 2012 is the year of the dragon and, what a surprise, 1964 (the year I was born) was also the year of the dragon. I suspect this may be a good year for all us dragons out there. If I had a crystal ball I’d say I see weight loss and better health and fitness. Do you agree? But I’d also say it will take a lot of hard work and determination and believe me if I can take on this challenge then anyone can because I have the will power of a gnat. I’m looking forward to keeping y’all informed of my progress on my blog.

I will have to change my weight watchers day to a Thursday (don’t worry I’ll find a good name for the new leader) because I have to start with the training rides on a Saturday morning. The first is on Saturday 14th January. I have to say I’m a tad nervous about this since it will be the first time I’ll have ridden in a group. So what do you call a load of bike riders? A group, a pack, oh, or maybe a bunch of bike riders? I’m not quite sure, y’all will have to help me out here (best and funniest answer gets a Y-izzi-Y t-shirt) you can leave a comment on the blog or Facebook your answer.

Thank god I get to heave a big sigh of relief that the holiday season is well and truly over and it’s back to work and back to my diet routine. Not that I particularly want to do either but I have too and I did say I’d get those 2lbs off that I put on over the last two weeks, that may be easier said than done. Y’all know how hard it is to start all over again, it’s a million times harder than it was 5 weeks and 18 pounds ago. I don’t know about you but I’ll do anything - and I mean anything - rather than exercise I’ll even clean the boys bathroom and that’s just gross but I’d prefer that to the gym.

Ok I lied there’s no way I’m cleaning their bathroom but I’d do almost anything else.

Well it’s been a funny old week, the beginning of the week it was still the Christmas break then back to work and 75 degree temperatures. It feels more like spring than Christmas but as I said it was back on track, now to get that 2 pounds back off.

At 5:20am in the mornings I’d get on the bike for 20 minutes before breakfast I read somewhere it’s supposed to kick start your metabolism and then I’d planned out my food for the day so I would know exactly what I was going to eat all day. I didn’t want to leave anything to chance. Unfortunately for the boys they have to have the same dinners as me since I’m not cooking two or sometimes three different dinners like it used to be. So on Tuesday Greek Adonis asks me “hey mom what’s for dinner”

Me “turkey burgers”

GA “I don’t like turkey burgers”

Me ”ok I’ll make you a beef one” (ok I lied we really we didn’t have any beef ones I just made what we had but he did have bacon and cheese on his and you know how bacon makes everything taste better).

GA “that was delicious”

Me “I’m glad”

GA “it was turkey wasn’t it?”

Me “yup”

So GA is a very fussy eater he likes what he likes and does not like to try anything different you know like turkey! On Wednesday he comes in from work and his dinner is all ready for him he complains a bit about the portion size but it would be an odd day if he didn’t complain about something so I just let it slide, he finishes his dinner and again tells me how good it is “mom that salmon was awesome”

Me” I’m so glad you enjoyed it, it was trout!”

Seriously I could do this every night.

Thursday night’s dinner was the Italian turkey sausage pasta recipe I gave you all.

GA “this is good”

Me “glad you like it”

GA “wait! is this turkey?”

Me “yup”

GA “Why can we not eat like normal people?”

Ha, ha, ha honestly this could be my new form of entertainment. Love it!

I know you’ll be anxiously waiting to hear how I got on at Weight Watchers this week, well as promised I lost the 2bls that I put on over the holidays and lost another one so I’m one very happy camper, this has given me the push I need to keep going. After W/W I went out on my bike and wait for it….I rode 21 miles and to be honest the weather was so fantastic that I could have stayed out all day however there were much more pressing matters to take care of in the afternoon we had football to watch and beers and margarita’s to drink. Way to go Texan’s! Now we get to do this all again next week in Baltimore although the problem is next week’s game is on Sunday and I can’t drink beer or margaritas on a Sunday (oh Shit how am I going to work this one out?) You think the Texan’s could change their schedule?

OK goals for next week.

• 20 minutes on the trainer every morning
• Plan my food every day
• Stick to my diet plan (hopefully lose a pound or 2)
• 30 miles on the bike

I think all this is doable right?

Serious bit.

Now I know that some of you don’t read the serious bit but this week it is very serious indeed. Two people told me this week that women should not drink gin (WTF) it apparently ages you. (see I told you this was serious) So this weekend I drank vodka which I have to say I’m not a fan of and tequila. Ok, yes I’m a fan of tequila but not like gin. However after scouring the internet for what seemed like hours I cannot find anything to confirm this horrible lie. So unless I can see some proof I’m happy to say I’m back on the gin. See I’m ending on a happy note - Cheers!

  1. The formal name is a peloton but you can call it a scary blob if you like :-).
As for dinner - don't try fooling the kids into thinking asparagus mashed potatos are real mashed potatos - it won't work and they will mistrust you forever!

Good luck on your first. Big ride !
